FIELD NOTES // THE CAMP IS OPENSURVIVING, NOT SUFFERING

Camp Update — YouTube Has Opinions

Apparently, YouTube has decided that Survivor Incognito does not currently possess enough “channel history” to retain access to some advanced features.

I have reviewed the evidence.

The channel exists.

The videos exist.

More videos are scheduled.

And yet, according to YouTube, this does not presently amount to sufficient history.

I admit this has created some confusion in the administrative department.

The affected features include higher daily upload limits, embedded live streams, and pinned comments.

That last one is particularly inconvenient, as I am quite fond of placing important information at the top where people can actually see it.

YouTube also helpfully mentioned that this may happen when a channel has not followed Community Guidelines.

No specific incident was identified.

Excellent. Very actionable.

For now, nothing substantial changes around camp. The Survivor will continue recording. The website will continue documenting what happens. YouTube will continue serving as the video archive.

We may simply have to operate without pinned comments for a while.

Please therefore consider this update the official pinned announcement regarding our temporary inability to pin announcements.

I am currently reviewing the situation.

This mainly involves staring at the message, checking the channel still exists, and wondering how much history is required before history officially becomes history.

I will report back if the platform produces anything resembling a useful answer.
