๐Ÿฆ– Day One Diaries: ARK Edition โ€“ Now Filling the Weekend Gaps

Day One Diaries returns with an ARK twist! Each short entry covers the first chaotic 24 hours on every map in ARK: Survival Evolved for the Nintendo Switch. Chaos, dinos, and bad decisions await.

So, People Have Been Clicking the ARK Map Pageโ€ฆ

โ€ฆand thatโ€™s either a promising sign or a harbinger of incoming disaster.

Either way, welcome to a brand-new side series here on Survivor Incognito:

> ๐ŸŽฎ Day One Diaries: ARK Edition
A bite-sized, chaos-fueled survival journal where I explore the first 24 hours on every ARK map available on the Nintendo Switch.

This series is coming soon and will drop on one of the blogโ€™s quieter daysโ€”Mondays, Saturdays, and Sundaysโ€”to fill in the gaps with some portable prehistoric panic.

๐Ÿ—บ๏ธ What to Expect

Each post will document:

โ€ข Where I spawned

โ€ข What I crafted (poorly)

โ€ข What inevitably killed me

And whether I learned anything (spoiler: probably not)

These arenโ€™t full playthroughsโ€”theyโ€™re glorified diary entries of my first day of disaster, all tied together with maps, Switch gameplay quirks, and whatever half-baked strategy I manage to invent before something eats me.

โœ… Already Posted

Iโ€™ve already covered the following maps in earlier posts:

The Island

Scorched Earth

So I wonโ€™t be redoing those. Instead, Iโ€™ll link back to those entries when their time comes in the lineup.

๐ŸŒ‹ Whatโ€™s Next?

From here, itโ€™s on to the rest of the maps available on the Nintendo Switch:

โ€ข Aberration

โ€ข Extinction

โ€ข Genesis Part 1

โ€ข Genesis Part 2

โ€ข Ragnarok (DLC)

Each time I publish a new Day One Diary, Iโ€™ll also update the ARK Map Hub with:

โ€ข The region map

โ€ข Survival notes

โ€ข Links to the interactive resource map

โ€ข Possibly a eulogy

๐Ÿงช A Preview of What Youโ€™re In For…

To set the mood, hereโ€™s a flawlessly accurate preview of what I expect my time in Aberration to look likeโ€”courtesy of Neebs Gaming:

> ๐ŸŽฅ Simon vs. Snake โ€“ Neebs Gaming in Aberration
Simonโ€™s alone. Eating peanuts. Thereโ€™s a snake. Panic ensues.

Itโ€™s everything ARK represents: snack time, followed by betrayal and screaming.

๐ŸŽฌ Chaos You Can Count On

If something truly unhinged happens during one of these Day One sessionsโ€”and letโ€™s be honest, it willโ€”itโ€™ll earn its own spotlight as a Survivorโ€™s Shorts post.

Because some moments of portable disaster deserve a dedicated write-upโ€ฆ especially the ones where I genuinely thought I was safe and then immediately wasnโ€™t.

๐Ÿ“… First Entry Drops Soon

Check back next Saturday for Day One in The Islandโ€”the first stop on this tour of Switch-based suffering. Followed by Scorched Earth the next week, and then finally, Aberration.

Expect bioluminescent fungus, regret, and gravity issues. See you there.

๐Ÿ›  Behind the Blog: Why I Made SnowRunner Permadeath (and How Itโ€™s Somehow Working)

Youโ€™d think SnowRunner would be the calm one.

No wolves. No starvation. No sanity meter. Just trucks, mud, and the occasional fallen powerline. And yet, when I started playing, I realized something important:

I had the perfect canvas for portable permadeath chaos.
I just needed a few extra rules (and a slightly reckless imagination).

๐ŸŽฎ Why Permadeath?

Honestly? For the drama. The stakes. The thrill of knowing that if I lose a truck, it’s gone. It turns every route into a calculated risk, every muddy hill into a potential obituary.

Normal SnowRunner is about problem solving. Permadeath SnowRunner is about character. I named my trucks. I argued with myself about whether I could save one stuck in a ditch. And somehow, that made it all feel more alive.

๐Ÿ“‹ How I Fine-Tuned the Rules

Permadeath in a driving game isnโ€™t exactly a toggle, so I had to make it work manually. A few highlights from the rulebook:

  • No selling dead trucks for profit. You’re not a junkyard, you’re a survivor.
  • Every truck gets one lifeโ€”unless it’s truly recoverable later (aka, itโ€™s not a ghost story).
  • Upgrades? Optional. Some may say I’m making things harder. Others say I’m making them funnier.

๐Ÿš› Meet the Cast

So far the crew includes:

  • Scout โ€“ plucky, chaotic energy.
  • Mac (GMC) โ€“ the dependable workhorse.
  • Frank (Fleetstar) โ€“ big, bold, and stuck somewhere inconvenient.

Yes, I name my trucks. No, I wonโ€™t apologize.

๐Ÿงญ What’s Next?

More entries for The Permagear Diaries, of course. Iโ€™m stacking up posts behind the scenes before I start the full series rolloutโ€”but this chaotic convoy is very much in motion.

In the meantime, Iโ€™d love to hear:

If you had to permadeath one of your favourite gamesโ€ฆ which would it be, and how much therapy would you need after?

Itโ€™s Friday the 13th โ€“ Zombie Army Trilogy Day One Diary Is Now Live

What better day to fight Nazi zombies than Friday the 13th?

The first entry in my Zombie Army Trilogy experience is now live on the blog. I step into the boots of Hermann Wolf, load into โ€œThe Berlin Horror,โ€ and quickly learn that ammo is limited, aim is important, and zombies donโ€™t like staying dead.

Expect:

โ— Occult seals

โ— Suicidal zombies

โ— A lot of shotgun usage

โ— And the slow decline of my confidence in Marksman difficulty

All of that โ€” and more โ€” in Zombie Army Trilogy: Day One Diary.
Read it now… if you dare.

๐Ÿ”— Day One Diary – Zombie Army Trilogy

Grounded: The Backyard Trials starts next week

Survivor Incognito: Zombie Army Trilogy โ€“ Day One Diary

The dead walk as Operation Z begins. My first steps into Zombie Army Trilogy involve headshots, missed shots, occult seals, suicidal zombies, and plenty of shotgun diplomacy. A new Day One Diary begins.

Welcome to Berlin. It’s… worse than usual.

Character: Hermann Wolf
Difficulty: Marksman
Enemy Setup: Suitable for solo play
Chapter: The Berlin Horror โ€” Village of the Dead

I load in and am immediately greeted with a very angry Hitler standing in front of a map. His mood is about as good as you’d expect from someone losing a war. After shooting one of his own soldiers in cold blood, he calmly orders the others to initiate Plan Z.

Spoiler: Plan Z involves zombies. Lots of zombies.

With the undead now walking the earth, I stick with the default loadout for the mission and head out. The early zombies are pretty easy to deal with โ€” basic headshots handle most of them โ€” but the game is very quick to teach me a lesson: shoot for the head or they get back up. One particular zombie helpfully demonstrates this right in front of me. Noted.

My Aim Needs Some Work

I reach the village where an occult seal blocks my path forward. Naturally, the only way to break it is to wipe out every zombie in the area. Easy enough in theory โ€” if I could actually hit all my headshots. Apparently, Marksman difficulty still expects me to be able to aim. This might be a problem.

Shotgun Solutions

Once I break through the seal, I spot what I assume is the safe room โ€” only to find that zombies have already moved in. The housewarming party is very much still in progress.

Plan B: Shotgun. I head upstairs, camp at the top of the staircase, and turn the whole thing into a makeshift meat grinder. Zombies may be many things, but smart isnโ€™t one of them. They obligingly walk straight into a wall of buckshot.

Of course, this strategy does have a minor flaw: limited shotgun ammo. Once Iโ€™m reasonably confident the room has stopped moving, I make a run for the actual safe room.

Just One More Room…

With some momentum, I decide to press on to the next safe room.

Early on, I manage to score a satisfying two-for-one kill with my sniper rifle โ€” a brief moment where I start to feel almost competent. Naturally, that confidence doesnโ€™t last: a zombie manages to sneak up behind me and reminds me why I shouldn’t get cocky.

I soon find another occult seal and am told to investigate a mysterious skull. Since nothing good ever comes from mysterious occult skulls, I lay down some trip wires before interacting with it. My instincts prove correct: Iโ€™m immediately thrown into a siege.

Suicidal Tendencies

Midway through the siege, I meet a new type of zombie: suicidal ones, complete with grenades strapped to them as they charge at me screaming. Lovely.

Fortunately, I have grenades of my own. No matter how many I take out, more keep arriving. Eventually, the wave dies down and I make a break for the second safe room โ€” but not before one last zombie manages to slip past my shot, forcing a bit of panicked dodging. More suicidal zombies show up as well. I get the feeling this won’t be the last time I see them.

With the coast finally clear, I dive into the second safe room and slam the door shut. Thatโ€™s enough zombie nonsense for one day.

Day One Summary

โœ… Two safe rooms reached

โœ… First siege survived

โœ… New enemy type met (suicidal zombies)

โœ… Sniper skills: mixed

โœ… Shotgun skills: heavily relied upon

What better day to dive headfirst into Nazi zombies than Friday the 13th?

The latest Day One Diary arrives this Friday as I take my first steps into Zombie Army Trilogy. Expect undead soldiers, occult seals, suicidal zombies, and my usual mixture of panic, bad aim, and questionable survival instincts.

Safe rooms reached? Yes.
Ammo well managed? Debatable.
Mental stability? Slipping.

All entries for The Long Dark, Skyrim, and Day One Diaries have been turned into full posts (not pages!) so theyโ€™re easier to find, share, and follow.

Thanks for Reading โ€“ And Surviving

Bookmark the blog, subscribe if you havenโ€™t, and remember: in survival gaming, itโ€™s not about thriving โ€” itโ€™s about laughing while everything falls apart.

Customloper: The Long Dark Challenge That Outlasted the Challenge

For the past 6โ€“7 months, Iโ€™ve been running a custom difficulty mode in The Long Dark. The goal was simple: I wanted to keep the spirit of Voyageurโ€”but with a dose of Stalker and a blast of Interloper.. After testing and tweaking, hereโ€™s where I landed:

  • Voyageur-level of loot – because scrounging should feel rewarding
  • Wildlife set between Voyageur and Stalker – you’re not safe, but you’re not helpless
  • Interloper weather – cold enough to regret every decision

It wasn’t meant to be a thing, but after two runs, it kind of is:

  • My first run ended in Forlorn Muskeg, trying to reach Mountain Town after coming back from the Airfield. Spoiler alert: The ice got me again. I think I lasted maybe a week in-game
  • The other? I’m sitting at around 60 days, and still alive in Mystery Lake… but after dropping four bears, I realised I might have broken the game’s spirit before it broke mine.

So now I’m bringing my Customloper game to the blog properly.

Coming Soon:

  • A full breakdown of every setting I use
  • The actual Customloper code so you can try it yourself
  • A brand new Day One Diary โ€“ Because I honestly can’t remember anything about my original first day
  • Plus survival tips for weather that makes Interloper look like light snow

This isnโ€™t Interloper.
Itโ€™s Interloper with optionsโ€”and that might be even more dangerous.

Waitโ€”Isnโ€™t This Blog About Easier Survival?

It is. And that hasnโ€™t changed.
Customloper isnโ€™t about going full Interloper. Itโ€™s about dialing in a challenge that keeps things tense but playable. Think of it as controlled chaosโ€”for players who want pressure without the permadeath purgatory.

Think you can survive it? The full code drops soon. Stay tuned

Skyrim Survival Mode โ€“ Day 4 Teaser: Out of the Frying Pan, Into the Frost

Teaser for Day 4 of my Skyrim Survival Mode run. Cold weather, fireballs, and one very overworked Argonian.

On Day 4, I leave Whiterun behind in search of adventure, loot, and maybe a bit of common sense (no luck there). But what I do find: hostile mages, freezing winds, and the dawning realization that maybe necromancy is the best form of pest control.

Full entry lands Saturday.
Bring a torch. Trust me.

Skyrim Day 3 Incoming + Blog Updates!

Skyrim Survival โ€“ Day 3 drops this Wednesday. After reaching Whiterun, I get caught up in the cityโ€™s favorite pastime: dragon slaying. Spoilerโ€”my attempt at stealth archery is about as subtle as a mammoth in a library.

In the meantime, the blogโ€™s had a few upgrades:

  • The Skyrim Hub is now live! Itโ€™s the central place for the full survival run and all related content.
  • The Long Dark Hub Itโ€™s the central place for the full survival run and all related content.
  • The Graveyard is openโ€”every permadeath now gets logged, labelled, and (lightly) mocked.
  • The FAQ page answers burning questions like โ€œWhy the Switch?โ€ and โ€œWas that death avoidable?โ€ (Usually: yes.)

New contentโ€™s coming. Expect chaos. Bring your torch.
