Super Mario 64 Randomizer โ€“ Log 4: Double Trouble in Rainbow Ride

Platform: Steam Deck
Settings: Vanilla Mario & Music โ€” chaos, but classy.
โ€œThey say patience is a virtue, but after chasing red coins in Rainbow Ride, Iโ€™m pretty sure itโ€™s a myth.โ€

Back to Rainbow Ride โ€” because apparently, I didnโ€™t learn my lesson last time. This time I decided to be bold (read: reckless) and go for both the Red Coin Star and the 100 Coin Star together.

Collecting 100 coins went surprisingly smoothly, which immediately made me suspicious. And rightly so โ€” the red coins were spread across moving platforms that seemed determined to throw me into the void.
When I finally gathered them all, the Red Coin Star spawned on the flying ship โ€” nowhere near any of the coins. Several failed leaps and existential sighs later, I finally snagged it.

Only two stars this time, but both felt like boss fights. Rainbow Ride remains the chaotic crown jewel of frustration.

Super Mario 64 Randomizer โ€“ Log 3: Rainbow Ride in the Basement

Platform: Steam Deck
Settings: Vanilla Mario & Music โ€” chaos supplied separately.
โ€œSomewhere between the mountain slide and the basement sky, I realised this randomizer doesnโ€™t believe in architecture either.โ€

With only the 100 Coin Star left in Tall, Tall Mountain, I decided it was time to finally clear my first course. The plan was simple: grab coins, stay alive, avoid plummeting off the cliff. Naturally, the first attempt ended in a slide-related tragedy. The second try, however, was a success โ€” first course officially cleared.

Feeling confident, I ventured down to the basement to see what new horrors awaited. A friendly Toad handed over a star without asking for anything in return โ€” a rare act of generosity in this twisted castle.

Then came the real surprise: the hole that should have led to the Vanish Cap switch instead opened into Rainbow Ride. Because apparently, gravity is optional now. Despite a few near misses (and several camera-induced heart attacks), I managed to grab three stars before deciding Iโ€™d pushed my luck enough for one day.

Super Mario 64 Randomizer โ€“ Log 2: Chuckyaโ€™s Revenge

Platform: Steam Deck
Settings: Vanilla Mario & Music โ€” chaos left entirely intact.

โ€œGravity and Chuckya joined forces today. I call it a hate crime.โ€

Fresh off the high of conquering Bowser and the Secret Slide, I decided to revisit Shifting Sand Land. One more star there couldnโ€™t hurt, right? A quick trip across some quicksand later, I added another to the tally and figured it was time to see what lay below the castle.

Thatโ€™s when I wandered into the Boo garden โ€” home to ghostly giggles, hidden secrets, and one particularly smug Boo concealing a course entrance. I gave chase, stomped the spook, and jumped straight into the portal. The result? Tall, Tall Mountain. Great name. Terrible welcome.

Watch Log 2:

Thrown Off the Deep End

My very first spawn placed me in armโ€™s reach of a Chuckya. Before I could even process what I was looking at, the purple menace grabbed me and threw me off the mountain. Ten seconds in, one life down, ego shattered. I went back in for a rematch because apparently I enjoy suffering.

Round two went much better. I methodically climbed the slopes, dodged monkey theft, narrowly avoided falling logs, and picked up six of the seven available stars. Not bad for a course that literally tried to throw me away on entry.

The lone survivor is the 100 Coin Star, which Iโ€™ll tackle next timeโ€”assuming I can convince myself that collecting loose change while balancing on ledges is โ€œfun.โ€

Log 2 Summary

  • Stars Collected: 13
  • Stars Remaining: 107
  • Lives: 8

After the sandstorms and the mountainโ€™s murderous intent, Iโ€™m learning that no amount of preparation can outmatch the randomizerโ€™s sense of humour. Still, progress is progressโ€”and at least this time I didnโ€™t get flung into the void twice in a row.

Lessons from Log 2

  • Chuckya exists solely to ruin your day.
  • Always expect ledges to betray you.
  • Boos are pranksters, not friends.
  • Six stars and a grudge is still a win.

Super Mario 64 Randomizer โ€“ Log 1: A Metal Start & a Sandstorm Surprise

Platform: Steam Deck
Settings: Vanilla Mario & Music โ€” because some chaos speaks for itself.
โ€œSomewhere between turning to metal and getting launched at Bowser before lunch, I realised the randomizer doesnโ€™t believe in pacing.โ€

The Super Mario 64 Randomizer wastes no time reminding you that reality is optional. My first warp dropped me straight into the Metal Cap stage โ€” a place I had no right being this early on, but apparently this version of Mario is a trendsetter. After a brief moment of โ€œwait, how did I get here?โ€, I grabbed the cap, collected what I could, and escaped before the chaos decided to double down.

Moments later, I opened another doorโ€ฆ and there he was. Bowser in the Dark World, staring back at me with that โ€œyouโ€™re not supposed to be here yetโ€ kind of energy. Naturally, I went in anyway.

Watch Log 1:

Early Bowser, Early Panic

I wasnโ€™t mentally or physically prepared for an early Bowser fight. My hands were still in โ€œcollect coins and admire texturesโ€ mode, not โ€œavoid spinning platforms over the voidโ€ mode. But somehow, it worked out. Bowser got tossed into oblivion, my confidence went up by about 10%, and my sense of direction dropped by 80%.

From there, I stumbled into Shifting Sand Land. You know, the one full of quicksand and angry wildlife. Not exactly where I expected to end up next, but at least it looked warm. A few exploratory jumps later, I realised Iโ€™d achieved very little besides confirming that sand hurts โ€” so I retreated to something more comforting: the Secret Slide.

The Slide Before the Storm

Ah, the Secret Slide โ€” the calmest, most reassuring part of this randomizer so far. No enemies, no bottomless pits, just gravity and mild regret. I took the scenic route (read: I fell off twice), grabbed both stars, and left feeling momentarily competent.

Naturally, that feeling didnโ€™t last. My next warp took me back to Shifting Sand Land, which seems determined to be my home base now. Between the quicksand, whirlwinds, and the constant threat of instant death, itโ€™s a lot like visiting a beach if the beach actively wanted you gone.

Log 1 Summary

  • Stars Collected: 6
  • Stars Remaining: 114
  • Lives: 4
  • Areas Cleared: Metal Cap, Secret Slide, Bowser in the Dark World

For a first outing, this randomizer threw everything at me except the kitchen sink (and letโ€™s be honest, that might still show up later). Metal Mario, Bowser, sandstorms, slides โ€” itโ€™s been a full dayโ€™s work in about half an hour. Iโ€™ve no idea what the next warp will bring, but Iโ€™m bringing extra lives and zero expectations.

Lessons from Log 1

  • Metal Mario early is fun โ€” until gravity remembers heโ€™s heavy.
  • Bowser fights donโ€™t need context to cause panic.
  • Shifting Sand Land: 10/10 for sun exposure, 0/10 for safety.
  • Secret Slide remains the only form of therapy in this castle.

Transmission #1 โ€“ Chaos Detected (Super Mario 64 Randomizer)

Signal Source: Super Mario 64 Randomizer | Platform: Steam Deck
Status: Active Feed | Condition: Unstable | Duration: 10 Seconds of Pure Confusion

โ€œReality folded, gravity resigned, and Mario fell into the void. The transmission survived. Barely.โ€

The first proper signal after Transmission #0 has arrived โ€” and itโ€™s already malfunctioning.
Our sensors picked up an anomaly inside the Super Mario 64 Randomizer where stars, worlds, and basic physics decided to unionize against me.
The result? Ten seconds of pure, glorious nonsense, preserved for analysis.

Signal Debrief

  • Transmission Detected: [Signal #1]
  • Subject: Super Mario 64 Randomizer โ€“ Test Feed
  • Result: Star locations scrambled / logic evaporated / REC light flickering
  • Conclusion: Survival probability = mildly comedic disaster

Behind the Static

As with Transmission #0, this short keeps the same broadcast format: static, flicker, chaos.
This time, the โ€œRECโ€ overlay makes it feel like a recovered feed โ€” a camera that shouldโ€™ve stopped rolling but didnโ€™t.
Think of it as portable chaos meets paranormal broadcast interference.

Six Months of Chaos: A Survivorโ€™s Milestone

[Signal detectedโ€ฆ]

Six months ago, I started this little corner of chaos thinking Iโ€™d maybe post a few survival stories, get a handful of clicks, and quietly freeze to death somewhere in The Long Dark. Back then, it was just me, a Nintendo Switch, and the idea of documenting how many ways I could die before breakfast.

Since then, the blogโ€™s grown far beyond what I expected โ€” from Switch survival diaries to Steam Deck expeditions, from small guides to full-blown playthroughs and embracing chaos. And somehow, itโ€™s still alive โ€” which feels like a small miracle, considering most blogs donโ€™t make it past the first few months. Hundreds of clicks, countless laughs, and a few subscribers later, Iโ€™m still here โ€” fuelled by caffeine and questionable decisions.

So first and foremost โ€” thank you. Whether youโ€™ve clicked, read, liked, shared, or just wandered in wondering how someone can die to a rabbit, I appreciate every single bit of support.

Transmission #0 โ€“ Reverse Voice Reveal

To mark the occasion, I decided to put together a short video. Some of you mightโ€™ve thought this would finally be my voice reveal. To that I sayโ€ฆ really?

A brief burst of static, gratitude, and one very loud Godpigeon scream. Full credit, of course, to the brilliant Animaniacs team for that glorious noise.

Fuel for the Generator

Iโ€™ve also quietly launched a Ko-fi page โ€” emphasis on quietly. I didnโ€™t make a big announcement about it because I didnโ€™t want it to feel like a sales pitch. Everything I create will always stay free to read and free to enjoy. Thatโ€™s a promise.

I know times are tough and not everyone can spare a few pounds โ€” and thatโ€™s perfectly fine. Your clicks, comments, and time already mean more than enough. The Ko-fi page is just there for anyone who genuinely wants to toss a tip into the mug to help keep the coffee flowing and the generator humming. Please donโ€™t go overboard; keep the lights on at home first.

Down the line, I might look at adding a few ads on the blog or YouTube channel, but Iโ€™ll do my best to keep them minimal and non-intrusive. Iโ€™d rather focus on sharing stories and surviving the next storm than filling screens with banners and pop-ups.

Looking Ahead

Thereโ€™s still a lot left to explore โ€” new games, new disasters, same portable chaos. Iโ€™m excited (and mildly terrified) to see what the next six months bring.

So hereโ€™s to six months of frostbite, fuel shortages, and unexpected victories โ€” and hereโ€™s to making it a full year of portable chaos. Thank you for being part of this weird, wonderful journey.

[Transmission terminated. Coffee levels: critical.]

๐ŸŽ‰ 500 Views of Portable Chaos โ€“ Thank You for Stopping By!

Survivor Incognito has crossed 500 views! A huge thank you to everyone whoโ€™s joined the portable survival chaos. Hereโ€™s to more maps, more diaries, and probably more regrettable decisions.

57 Days. 500 Views. And At Least That Many Bad Spear Throws.

Somehow, this little survival corner of the internet has crossed 500 viewsโ€”and I want to say a huge thank you to everyone whoโ€™s visited, clicked, or accidentally found the blog while looking for something else entirely. (Hey, Iโ€™ll take it.)

When I started Survivor Incognito 57 days ago, it was just a space to share:

Survival game stories (usually featuring questionable decisions)

Maps and guides (so you donโ€™t get lost like I do)

And a lot of Switch-based chaos

Fast forward to today, and Iโ€™m genuinely thrilled that over 500 viewsโ€™ worth of folks have joined in. Whether you came for ARK maps, The Long Dark Customloper settings, Skyrim survival mishaps, or just to watch the chaos unfoldโ€”thank you.

๐Ÿš€ Whatโ€™s Next?

The chaos continues:

The Day One Diaries: ARK Edition is launching soon, filling the weekend gaps with fresh prehistoric panic.

The map pages and hubs will keep growing as I explore (and inevitably die in) new places.

More survival stories, more bad ideas, and probably more pinecone tea. Expect more information soon.

๐Ÿงญ Thanks for Joining the Journey

Iโ€™m just getting started. If youโ€™ve enjoyed the blog so far: โžก Bookmark the site
โžก Share it with fellow Switch survival fans
โžก Or just stick around for the next 500 views of portable disaster.

Hereโ€™s to the next milestoneโ€”and to thriving, not just surviving.
