Snowrunner Survival: The Permagear Diaries โ€“ Day Four

Day 4 of SnowRunner’s permadeath run brings a new fleet member, another watchtower, and some serious heavy lifting as Frank dominates mountain terrain and takes on multiple tasks.

๐Ÿ”ง Day Four: Meet Red. Trust Frank.

I start the day by hopping into Scout. Thereโ€™s a vehicle icon on the map and, well, you know Iโ€™m not ignoring that. Turns out itโ€™s the Scout 800โ€”a compact little powerhouse with AWD pre-installed and Diff Lock always on. Sure, the fuel tank’s smaller, but it’s got heart.

Naturally, I drive it back to the garage and give it a proper makeover. New tyres, fresh coat of paintโ€ฆ and a name: Red.

Taken before Red’s fresh coat of paint

Red gets a test run with a little exploring and even discovers a watchtower near the Mountain Bridge task. The bridge needs metal beams and concrete blocks, which means it’s time to call in the only truck I trust for a job like this: Frank.

Frank, ladies and gentlemen, is built different. He doesnโ€™t need fancy tyres (though heโ€™ll get them one day). Mud? Optional. Gravity? Merely a suggestion.

First, he hauls the metal beams to the bridgeโ€”zero issues. Then he climbs the mountain to Redโ€™s position four times. Twice empty, twice with concrete blocks. Two blocks go to the Mountain Bridge (task complete), and the other two finish off the Fallen Powerline.

After finishing the bridge, I roll down the newly opened road a little farther and discover the Road Block task. I accept it immediatelyโ€”because of course I do. Frankโ€™s momentum waits for no one.

Here’s What You Missed This Week on Survivor Incognito โ€“ Crashes, Farewells, and Frozen Toes

Another week of survival stories has wrapped up over at Survivor Incognito, and hereโ€™s what went live:

  • ๐ŸŒด Tuesday: Sunburnt & Sinking โ€“ Stranded Deep: Day One. A plane crash, some aggressive crabs, and the beginning of another deeply questionable survival journey.
  • โ„๏ธ Wednesday: Customloper Diaries โ€“ Day Five. Moose encounters, torchlit panic, and the continuing battle to not freeze to death in The Long Dark.
  • ๐ŸฆŽ Thursday: Goodnight, Sweet Lizard โ€“ A heartfelt (and mildly roasted) farewell to my first Skyrim survivor. Gone, but not forgotten. Or fully thawed.
  • ๐Ÿšš Friday: SnowRunner Survival โ€“ Day Three. I made it to the top of a mountain. That was the easy part. Getting down? Thatโ€™s Future Meโ€™s problem.
  • ๐Ÿ›ค๏ธ Saturday: Day One Diary โ€“ Choo Choo Charles. A train with spider legs, eggs with suspicious importance, and absolutely no time to process anything.

๐Ÿงญ We also updated the Start Here page with better guidance for new readers and easier access to key blog content.

Itโ€™s been a week of rough starts, fond farewells, and terrain I was never meant to cross โ€” just how we like it.

Next week: the official start of the Subnautica permadeath run, a bit more trucking, and probably something trying to kill me with a leaf. Stay tuned.

Eulogy: The Backyard Wins This Round!

She never asked for this.
She never wanted to be shrunk down and tossed into a backyard where everything โ€” ants, mites, bees, spiders, the wind โ€” wanted her dead.
She just wanted to craft a lean-to, maybe roast some gnat meat, and figure out why the grass was taller than a skyscraper.

But she was brave.
She fixed lasers. She investigated an oak tree that promptly exploded.
She learned to fear the sounds of tiny feet in the grass.
She fought valiantly with spears, fists, and panic as her most reliable tools.

In the end, it was the bugs that got her. As they always do.
Not the spiders, no โ€” that wouldโ€™ve at least made sense.
No, her end came via something smaller. Meaner. Possibly several somethings.
The logs are unclear. The screaming was not.

She will be remembered for her resilience, her questionable armor choices, and her ability to stay alive just long enough for things to get interesting.

Rest in pieces, Backyard Explorer.
You were small, but your chaos was mighty.

Big Week Ahead at Survivor Incognito!

A quick update! One of our permadeath series end this week, but next week we launch SnowRunner โ€” the survival chaos continues!

Itโ€™s a big week on Survivor Incognito โ€” two of our current permadeath series are reaching their dramatic (and probably messy) conclusions.

But donโ€™t worryโ€ฆ the chaos isnโ€™t stopping. Next week, weโ€™re kicking off a brand new adventure:

  • ๐Ÿš› SnowRunner: The Permagear Diaries
Because driving a truck across frozen rivers and muddy pits without a reset button sounded like a great idea at the time.

We also have another series ending next week, the week after that, a Day One Diary for the game taking it’s place will be up, the week after that, that series begins.

Stay tuned โ€” more mayhem is just around the corner.

Behind the Blog: ARK Map Page Expansion โ€“ All Maps, All Mayhem (In Progress)

Quick update! Iโ€™m in the process of expanding the ARK Survival Evolved map page to cover all Switch maps โ€” because one deadly dino-infested region just isnโ€™t enough.

๐Ÿฆ– A Little Update from the Blog Frontlines

Iโ€™m currently working on expanding the ARK Survival Evolved map page โ€” the goal is to cover all of the maps available on Switch. From the dunes of Scorched Earth to the terrifying depths of Aberration, I want the page to reflect the full dino-infested chaos thatโ€™s coming in my permadeath series.

If youโ€™re planning your own survival adventure (or just want to see where Iโ€™m likely to meet my end), you can check out the work in progress here: [link to my ARK map page].

โšก Why This Update?

With my upcoming ARK permadeath series in the works, it felt right to make sure the blogโ€™s map page reflects every hazardous region Iโ€™ll be facing. Because why limit myself to one place to get stomped on by dinos?

๐Ÿ“Œ Whatโ€™s Next?

Iโ€™ll keep updating the page as I go, I will also do another post when it’s finished, and Iโ€™ll be sharing more about my planned map order for the series soon. If youโ€™ve got a favorite (or most feared) ARK map, Iโ€™m always happy to hear it!

Also expect a new Day One Diary in ARK hopefully sooner than later. I’m paying a visit to Aberration and if I’m honest, genuinely had a lot fun there

Catch up on the latest survival stories from Survivor Incognito, including permadeath tips, The Long Darkโ€™s Customloper progress, Skyrim Survival struggles, and our chaotic first steps in Grounded. Your weekly roundup of cozy chaos and portable panic is here!

Monday:

๐Ÿ’€ How I Handle Permadeath (And Still Sleep at Night)
I laid out my personal rules for permadeath, how I cope when a character dies a stupid death (usually of my own doing), and why it somehow keeps me coming back for more. Survival tip: Sleep helps. So does sarcasm.

Read it here: How I Handle Permadeath (and Still Sleep at Night)

Tuesday

๐Ÿ“œ Dark Waters: A Dredge Survival โ€“ Day Three
We went further out to sea, saw things we probably shouldnโ€™t have, and learned that fish aren’t the only things lurking in the dark. Spoiler: sanity is overrated.

Read it here: Dark Waters: A Dredge Survival โ€“ Day Three

Wednesday

๐Ÿ” Customloper โ€“ Day Two
Mountain Town continues to be less โ€œcosy alpine retreatโ€ and more โ€œconveniently located death trap.โ€ At least we are still in one piece. Mostly.

Read it here: Customloper Diaries Day Two: Blizzards, Boots, and Baseball Cap Confusion

Thursday

๐Ÿ—ก Skyrim Survival โ€“ Day Eight
Frostbite, bandits, and the general annoyance of being overencumbered after picking up one too many cabbages. Classic Skyrim survival energy.

Read it here: Sneak, Snipe, Repeat Day Eight

Friday:

๐Ÿก Grounded โ€“ Day One
Honey, I Shrunk the Panic. First day in the backyard brought bugs, dehydration, and a steep learning curve. That aphid had it coming.

Coming next week:

๐ŸงŠ More Long Dark, more Dark Waters, more Skyrim, and a deeper dive into the backyard horrors of Grounded. If weโ€™re lucky, there may even be fireflies. If not, probably just death by thirst.

I’ll also hopefully have the Day One Diary for Don’t Starve up. And will explain the the rules for Snowrunner Survival. But these are both hopefully as I’m currently under the weather at the time of this going up. Thank goodness for being able to schedule posts though.

How I Handle Permadeath (and Still Sleep at Night)

Also: A Sunburnt & Sinking Tease You Didnโ€™t Know You Needed

Permadeath. The challenge. The chaos. The deeply personal betrayal when a lovingly named character walks off a cliff because you misjudged a ledge.

This post is part ruleset, part philosophy, and part gentle teaser โ€” because yes, one of my current runs has already ended. And no, you wonโ€™t find out how for at least two months.

I play ahead โ€” sometimes way ahead โ€” because it gives me time to write, screenshot, cry, and recover before you all read about it. So yes, I already know how some of my stories end. That doesnโ€™t mean Iโ€™m any more emotionally prepared.

My Permadeath Rules (Across the Blog)

๐Ÿ›‘ One life. Always.
If the game lets me die permanently, I do. No save-scumming. No reloads. If I glitch through the map, we roll with it.

๐Ÿงค Difficulty is flexible.
I donโ€™t always play on the hardest difficulty โ€” because surviving should be intense but still fun. I tailor it per series: Customloper for The Long Dark, Apprentice for Skyrim, standard settings in Stranded Deep.

๐Ÿชฆ Once they die, they go to The Graveyard.
Every character gets an obituary. Sometimes dramatic, sometimes… deeply stupid. Either way, the blog remembers them.

๐ŸŽฃ Runs are usually played a month or two ahead.
So if something goes wrong? You’ll find out… eventually.

๐ŸŒด Coming Soon(ish): Sunburnt & Sinking

Yes, Stranded Deep is on the way. Yes, the series is called Sunburnt & Sinking.

Stay tuned. Itโ€™s equal parts sunstroke and sharks.

๐Ÿงญ Want to Know More?

If you’re wondering why I donโ€™t always crank the difficulty to maximum chaos, there’s a reason for that โ€” and itโ€™s not just because I like my limbs frostbite-free.

Check out my full page:
๐Ÿ‘‰ Why I Play On Easier Difficulties

And if you’re curious about the rules behind each of my survival runs, from Customloper to Backyard Trials:
๐Ÿ‘‰ Rules of Survival โ€“ According To Me

Because every survival story has its own set of ground rules โ€” even the weird ones involving crows and deer that somehow win the fight.

Hereโ€™s Whatโ€™s Coming This Week โ€“ June 16 to 22

From fishing mishaps to Skyrim sniping and a custom cold-weather panic run, hereโ€™s whatโ€™s planned this week on Survivor Incognito.

The Week Ahead

The schedule is packed โ€” except for Monday, which is still being negotiated with the universe. But the rest of the week? Solid chaos incoming:

โ“ Monday โ€“ ???
Letโ€™s call it… a mystery. Maybe a new Survivorโ€™s Short? Maybe I finally win a wolf fight? Maybe I stare at a snow shelter and question my life choices. Stay tuned.

๐ŸŒŠ Tuesday โ€“ Dark Waters: A Dredge Survival โ€“ Day Three
Debt cleared, upgrades unlocked, and still no idea whatโ€™s lurking beneath the boat. Letโ€™s fish. Letโ€™s panic.

โ„ Wednesday โ€“ Customloper Diaries Day 2: Blizzards, Boots, and Baseball Cap Confusion
Day 2 of my Customloper survival in The Long Dark. Mild weather? Never heard of her.

๐Ÿ—ก Thursday โ€“ Sneak, Snipe, Repeat: Skyrim Survival โ€“ Day Eight
Skyrim continues. The Argonianโ€™s sneak streak lives on, unless someone spots him โ€” in which case, panic magic it is.

๐Ÿช“ Friday โ€“ The Backyard Trials: Grounded Day One โ€“ Honey, I Lost Myself in the Backyard
Itโ€™s tiny, itโ€™s deadly, and Iโ€™ve already lost my bearings. Welcome to Grounded permadeath.

More Survival Incoming

Thereโ€™s more to come, including mystery Mondays, drowned diaries, and maybe a few unexpected wolves. Stick around โ€” the chaos is scheduled.

Survivor’s Shorts: The Rabbit Got Up and Left Like I Wasnโ€™t Even Worth It

In Pleasant Valley, I stunned a rabbit in The Long Dark. I walked over, ready to claim victoryโ€”only for it to stand up, look at me, and run away. Iโ€™ve never felt so insulted by a ball of fluff.

Ah, Pleasant Valley.

Land of blizzards, wolves, and soul-crushing optimism.

I was low on food, lower on morale, and spotted a few rabbits hopping around like they hadnโ€™t a care in the world. I grabbed a rock and let instinct take over.

Thwack.
Direct hit. Rabbit down. I stunned it.

Heart racing, I walked over like a proud predator. This was itโ€”my big win.
Dinner secured. Survival extended. The tundra had finally thrown me a bone.

But when I reached it?

The rabbit got up. Looked at me. And left.

No panic. No zigzag. Just a calm, confident hop back to its fluffy little lifeโ€”like I hadnโ€™t just concussed it with a rock.

I tried to chase it, failed. I just stood there, rock still in hand, questioning my worth.
Turns out in The Long Dark, you donโ€™t get the kill unless you earn it fast.
And that rabbit clearly decidedโ€ฆ I wasnโ€™t worth the effort.

Final Thoughts

The Long Dark is full of brutal wildlife encounters.
Turns out, sometimes the smallest animals donโ€™t need claws or teeth โ€” they just need perfect timing to humiliate you.

Hereโ€™s Whatโ€™s Coming This Week โ€“ June 9th – June 14th Preview

Survival, stunned rabbits, fishing horrors, and a lot of undead. Hereโ€™s whatโ€™s scheduled for this week on Survivor Incognito.

The Week Ahead

Weโ€™re keeping the survival streak alive with another full lineup of chaos, questionable decisions, and more permadeath fun. Hereโ€™s whatโ€™s coming your way:

๐Ÿ‡ Monday: Survivorโ€™s Shorts โ€” The One Involving The Stunned Rabbit

Youโ€™ll see. It involves a rabbit, a stone, and my general lack of coordination.

๐ŸŒŠ Tuesday: Dark Waters โ€“ Day 2

The sea grows darker, the fish get weirder, and the Madness meter keeps rising. Day 2 of Dark Waters: A Dredge Survival goes live.

โ„ Wednesday: The Cold Chronicles โ€“ Day 6

The Long Dark journey continues. More cold, more danger, and probably more bad choices.

๐Ÿ—ก Thursday: Sneak, Snipe, Repeat โ€“ Day 7

The Argonianโ€™s Skyrim Survival Mode adventure rolls into Day 7. Expect more sneaking, more sniping, and definitely more repeat.

๐ŸงŸโ€โ™‚๏ธ Friday: Day One Diary โ€“ Zombie Army Trilogy

The undead rise just in time for Friday. Itโ€™s a Day One Diary entry for Zombie Army Trilogy, and letโ€™s just say the welcome committee was enthusiastic.

See You in the Wild

As always, stay tuned across the week as each new post goes live โ€” and feel free to place bets on which run falls apart first.
