Cold-Blooded: A Skyrim Survival Diary – Log 1: Survival Starts After Helgen

Cold-Blooded – Log 1: Survival Starts After Helgen

Game: Skyrim Special Edition
Mode: Survival Mode
Difficulty: Adept (possibly dropping to Apprentice)
Survivor: Treads-Through-Cold (Argonian)

I could pick any race. I always pick Argonian. Some habits don’t need explaining.

I’m calling this run Cold-Blooded, which feels slightly unfair for an Argonian. But if the game insists on freezing me, I’m leaning into the theme.

Difficulty is set to Adept. That may change. I’m here to survive, not impress the weather.

Helgen (Skipped on Video, Not Skipped in Reality)

I didn’t record the wagon ride, the dragon, or the escape from Helgen. Survival Mode doesn’t matter until you’re out of the cave and the cold starts applying pressure.

I followed Hadvar through Helgen, grabbed what made sense, and moved on.

Once Survival Mode became available, I switched it on. At that point, the run was live.

Hadvar’s Advice and Immediate Doubts

Hadvar suggested we split up on the way to Riverwood.

We then took the same path.

He also suggested I join the Imperials. They did try to execute me earlier, so I’m undecided.

Mage Stone First, Because I Have Priorities

I detoured for the Mage Stone. If I’m going to struggle, I want my magic skills levelling efficiently while it happens.

From there, I headed straight for Embershard Mine.

Embershard Mine: Cold Prep in a Dark Hole

There was someone waiting outside. I dealt with that first.

Inside, I somehow avoided alerting the bandits after triggering their trap. I’m not calling it skill.

I cleared the mine carefully. Not stealth-archer careful. Mage careful.

The key find was fur armour. As an Argonian, warmth matters more than looks.

Loot was otherwise forgettable, but I did gain a level.

Riverwood: Familiar Faces, Familiar Problems

I reached Riverwood not long after Hadvar.

I spoke to the trader and learned about a stolen Golden Claw.

The thief ran off to Bleak Falls Barrow.

I don’t like the name. I like the location even less.

Apparently I’m Family Now

After speaking with Hadvar’s uncle, I was asked to warn the Jarl in Whiterun.

I was also told I could take food.

Not the bow. That stayed put.

Nightfall and a Sensible Call

I sold a dagger, watched the light fade, and chose not to push my luck.

Night meant colder temperatures and no margin for mistakes.

I returned to Hadvar’s family home and rested there.

Level-up went into Health and Destruction.

No commentary gameplay:

Log 1 Survival Notes

  • Survival starts when the cold is allowed to matter.
  • Early warmth beats early damage.
  • Daylight is a resource.
  • Bleak Falls Barrow can wait.

Survivor’s Log — Cold-Blooded: The Hub Page Is Now Live

Cold-Blooded: The Hub Page Is Now Live

Game: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Mode: Survival Mode

This run needed a foundation before it needed a first entry.

The hub page for Cold-Blooded: A Skyrim Survival Diary is now live.

This series follows an Argonian mage in Skyrim’s Survival Mode, using the Apex Predator Rule: three deaths total, and the third ends the run.

The hub outlines the rules, the format, and why this run exists, without jumping straight into the diary itself.

What You’ll Find on the Hub

  • The full ruleset, including the three-strike system
  • Build focus and combat restrictions
  • Context from the previous Skyrim Survival run
  • Space for future logs as the run progresses
You can find the hub page

Skyrim Survival Mode – Day 4 Teaser: Out of the Frying Pan, Into the Frost

Teaser for Day 4 of my Skyrim Survival Mode run. Cold weather, fireballs, and one very overworked Argonian.

On Day 4, I leave Whiterun behind in search of adventure, loot, and maybe a bit of common sense (no luck there). But what I do find: hostile mages, freezing winds, and the dawning realization that maybe necromancy is the best form of pest control.

Full entry lands Saturday.
Bring a torch. Trust me.

Skyrim Day 3 Incoming + Blog Updates!

Skyrim Survival – Day 3 drops this Wednesday. After reaching Whiterun, I get caught up in the city’s favorite pastime: dragon slaying. Spoiler—my attempt at stealth archery is about as subtle as a mammoth in a library.

In the meantime, the blog’s had a few upgrades:

  • The Skyrim Hub is now live! It’s the central place for the full survival run and all related content.
  • The Long Dark Hub It’s the central place for the full survival run and all related content.
  • The Graveyard is open—every permadeath now gets logged, labelled, and (lightly) mocked.
  • The FAQ page answers burning questions like “Why the Switch?” and “Was that death avoidable?” (Usually: yes.)

New content’s coming. Expect chaos. Bring your torch.

Here’s What’s Ahead This Week – Survivor Incognito Update

Coming Up This Week:

1. Skyrim Survival Day Three:

○ Our Argonian survivor continues their frigid, torchless march through Skyrim.

○ Follow the chaos and check out the full series on the Sneak, Snipe, Repeat: Skyrim Survival page.

2. The Long Dark Day Four:

○ More snow, more mistakes, and fewer calories

○ Full playthrough available on the The Cold Chronicles: A Voyageur’s Tale of The Long Dark page.

In Case You Missed It:

  • We’ve covered some basic Rules of Survival already:

○ If the game let’s you cheat death (The Long Dark, looking at you), we don’t take the offer.

○ Difficulty stays low, but decisions still have consequences.

  • Expect more games to enter rotation soon – but the current runs must end first. That’s the deal.

In The Works:

Beginner’s Guide: How To Survive Your First Week in The Long Dark

A practical walk through focusing on Mystery Lake. For players who want survival not suffering.

No Man’s Sky – Survival Series Pending

The space odyssey is on standby. It won’t launch until one of the current playthroughs wraps up. That gives me time to build out a few early entries before going live.

New Rules, Who Dis? (Permadeath Begins Now)

Setting the official rules for all future playthroughs on Survivor Incognito—permadeath is here, and chaos just got consequences.

Starting today, all future playthroughs on this blog—The Long Dark, Skyrim: Survival Mode, and anything else I drag my tired, freezing self into—will follow official permadeath rules.

That means:

If I die, that run is over.

No reloads. No saves. No mercy.

I start fresh from Day 1, with a new character or region.

What about previous entries?

My original Day 1 diary for The Long Dark was from my first experience with the game—long before these rules existed. So yes, I fell through the ice and died like a confused deer. That was real. That was me. That was chaos, pre-regulations.

What now?

From here on out:

I’ll clearly label each run.

I’ll document every in-game day, death or glory.

And I’ll stick to the rules. Even if a moose doesn’t.

Full breakdown of the rules are now live and can be found here [The Rules of Survival (According to Me)]

Let’s see how long I last.

Coming This Week: Sneak, Snipe, Repeat Day Two & A Voyageur’s Tale Day 3

So… I may have taken a wrong turn on the way to Bleak Falls Barrow. Twice.

Day 2 of my stealth-archer survival in Skyrim brings snowstorms, skeletal surprises, and the harsh realization that I probably should’ve brought a torch. Also: I’ve discovered the joys of necromancy. It’s amazing what a little magic, a lot of arrows, and a reanimated corpse can do against the undead.

Full Day 2 post coming on Wednesday —expect frostbite, draugr, and exactly one incredibly untrustworthy man in a web cocoon.

A Voyageur’s Tale Day 3 Drops Thursday

Our cautious wanderer isn’t done with the cold just yet.

Day 3 of A Voyageur’s Tale arrives this Thursday, and things are heating up—well, metaphorically. Expect more coffee, questionable decisions, and the creeping suspicion that the wolves have formed a union.

If you’ve missed the first two entries, now’s a good time to catch up. The cold doesn’t wait, and neither do the moose.

Stay warm. Stay weird. See you Thursday.
