Welcome to the Dusty Depths
Coal dust lingers in the air here. The tunnels feel tight, quiet, and older than they should. This mine connects Pleasant Valley to Coastal Highway, but it doesn’t feel like a shortcut. It feels like a decision.
There’s no natural light once you’re committed. Every step depends on what you’ve brought with you. A torch, a lantern, spare matches. Without them, the darkness isn’t dramatic — it’s disorienting. The layout bends just enough to make you question your direction if you move too quickly.
The reward is coal. Plenty of it, if you’re willing to search the deeper pockets. Fuel like that can carry you through storms later. The trade-off is navigating narrow corridors where it’s easy to lose bearings if you rush.
Wildlife doesn’t stalk the tunnels themselves, but stepping out either side demands awareness. Both Pleasant Valley and Coastal Highway can punish complacency the moment you emerge.
This isn’t a place to linger. Move deliberately. Gather what you need. Keep your light steady. Then choose which region you’re ready to face next.
