Difficulty Rating: Intermediate
Best For: Speedrunners, claustrophobic loot grabs
Recommended Base: None—this is a tunnel, not a home

Welcome to the Shaft of Regret

A dark, winding stretch between Desolation Point and Crumbling Highway, this place feels less like a transition zone and more like a test of patience. Every turn looks similar. Every shadow lingers longer than it should. It doesn’t take long before you realise the mine isn’t trying to guide you through — it’s daring you to lose your sense of direction.

The hazards here aren’t dramatic, but they are persistent. The darkness is constant and the tunnels twist just enough to disorient you if you move too quickly. Collapsed sections force awkward navigation and carry the risk of injury if you’re careless. In the larger cavern rooms, wolves can occasionally spawn, which feels unfair in a place where visibility is already limited. This isn’t a region where you want to fight. It’s one you move through deliberately.

Loot is modest but not nonexistent. The Mine Entrance Shack sometimes provides basic tools and food, just enough to steady you before committing to the tunnels. Deeper inside, the Collapsed Tunnel Cache can yield patchy gear or the odd piece of clothing. Ore deposit areas offer scrap metal and occasionally toolkits if you’re willing to search carefully.

There is also a chance for a prybar to spawn here. The maps don’t always mark it, which makes finding one feel less guaranteed and more like quiet luck. If you’re moving between regions early in a run and still missing that crucial piece of metal persuasion, it’s worth checking thoroughly.

As for basing here — don’t. The Entrance Shack can function as a brief shelter for crafting or warming up, but it’s not somewhere you linger. The Collapsed Tunnel Cache is even less inviting. Cramped, dim, and uncomfortable unless fully lit. This mine is a corridor, not a home.

Resource yield here is low compared to the navigational risk. A reliable light source is essential, and moving with intention matters more than speed. Enter, gather what you can, and exit with your bearings intact. The mine rewards preparation and punishes overconfidence.
