Surviving the Milky Way: An Elite Dangerous Survival Diary

“Space. The final chaos.
These are the voyages of one unprepared commander, armed with a Steam Deck and questionable decision-making.
Its mission: to bring portable chaos to the Milky Way, to scrape more stations than maps reveal, and to boldly explode in places no pilot has exploded before.”

Surviving the Milky Way: An Elite Dangerous Survival Diary

Welcome to the chaos of Elite Dangerous — where survival means not cooking yourself while fuel scooping, not smashing into a station at full boost, and not getting pirated 200 light years from civilisation. This series follows my attempt to survive the Milky Way one day at a time, on the Steam Deck — because portable chaos clearly isn’t limited to Earth anymore.

About This Series

I’m playing on the live servers — no solo mode, no rewinds, no second chances. Once a ship is destroyed, it’s gone. I’ll be documenting the journey in diary format: one entry per session, complete with fuel scares, interdictions, planetary mishaps, and the kind of handheld mayhem the Steam Deck is known for.

Think of it as The Long Dark in space — only colder, lonelier, and with more buttons to accidentally press at the wrong time.

Survivor Incognito Rule of the Stars: Naming Convention

Every ship and SRV in this series must have a name — and the name must reflect its role, my misplaced confidence, or the disaster that’s bound to happen to it. When a ship dies, the replacement gets a new name, usually more sarcastic or tragic than the last. The sillier the name, the faster the insurance claim.
