FAQ: Survivor Incognito

Frequently Asked Questions — or at least the ones you probably should’ve asked before wandering into a blizzard with a can of peaches.

This page explains what Survivor Incognito is, what platforms I play on (Nintendo Switch + Steam Deck), how the diaries work, and why this blog is built around survival storytelling rather than suffering for sport.

What is Survivor Incognito?

Survivor Incognito is a survival gaming blog focused on portable survival games — played on the Nintendo Switch and Steam Deck. Expect survival game guides, maps, permadeath diaries, and the occasional “I can fix this” moment immediately followed by regret.

If you’re new to the camp, my About Me page has the full story.

What type of content do you post?

This blog is built around survival games and survival horror, mainly through:

  • Survival diary playthroughs (Day One Diaries and full series logs)
  • Permadeath / high-stakes rulesets (depending on the game)
  • Beginner-friendly survival guides
  • Map hub pages with curated resources and region notes
  • No commentary gameplay videos (when available)

The main hub for all diaries, guides, and map links is The Survivor’s Camp.

What’s your philosophy?

Surviving, Not Suffering. I favour smart play, exploration, and storytelling over pure punishment. Challenge? Yes. Misery? No.

The full breakdown is here: Surviving, Not Suffering.

Do you always play on easier settings?

Not always.

Sometimes I play on easier modes for exploration and storytelling. Sometimes I crank things up to nightmare difficulty when tension makes the story better (and when I momentarily forget that consequences exist).

The goal isn’t to prove anything — it’s to create moments worth remembering (and occasionally regretting). Difficulty is just another survival tool; the chaos stays the same either way.

Why the Nintendo Switch and Steam Deck?

The Nintendo Switch is where it began: handheld survival from the sofa, train, or blanket fort. The Steam Deck expanded the camp with bigger maps and survival games that never made it to Nintendo.

Both are portable. Both are chaotic. Both have been dropped. More context here: About Me.

Do you still use permadeath?

Mostly, yes — permadeath is still the backbone of this blog. When a run ends, it ends. The Graveyard fills up, the wolves rejoice, and I move on.

But some games get what I call narrative leniency — if dying breaks the story (or my patience), I’ll adapt it into the ongoing tale instead of pressing delete. The goal is still tension, not torment.

So think of it like this: permadeath-first, story-driven second. Every choice still matters, but occasionally survival wins out over stubbornness. It’s still survival — just with a touch more sanity.

What happens when a character dies?

The fallen are memorialised in The Graveyard — names, dates, questionable choices, and occasionally a clip for forensic study. Flowers optional; sarcasm mandatory.

I’m new — where should I start?

Welcome to the chaos!

Start with the About Me page for a quick intro, then head to The Survivor’s Camp — the hub for all diaries, maps, and guides.

Are these stories real, or made up for laughs?

They’re real runs from my Nintendo Switch and Steam Deck. The chaos is genuine. The panic is sincere. And yes, I really did miss every spear throw at that doedicurus.

I retell the disasters with humour because crying doesn’t get blog traffic.

Do you use AI / ChatGPT?

Yes — sometimes.

I use ChatGPT as a writing assistant to help turn rough gameplay notes into readable posts. That includes structure, formatting, consistency, and SEO bits like tags, titles, and meta descriptions.

The important part: the gameplay is mine. The decisions are mine. The outcomes (including the ones that make me look like I’ve never held a controller before) are mine. ChatGPT just helps turn the chaos into something coherent enough to publish.

Think of it like this: I bring the blizzard. AI helps me write the incident report.

Will you ever play harder modes?

Sometimes — usually when I forget how consequences work. Expect short, themed runs (e.g., a one-day Misery attempt in The Long Dark) and a swift return to sanity.

Can I suggest a game or challenge?

Absolutely. Drop a comment or ping me on socials. No promises, but I might be foolish enough to try it — especially if it involves avoidable tragedy and portable caffeine.

How can I support the blog?

Reading, liking, commenting, and sharing are huge. If you genuinely want to chip in, there’s an optional tip jar here: Ko-fi.

No paywalls — everything stays free. Please don’t go overboard; keep your own lights on first.

I may add light ads to the site or YouTube later for sustainability, but I’ll keep them minimal and non-intrusive. Stories first, banners never.

Where else can I find you?

All signals live here: linktr.ee/survivorincognito. That hub links the blog, YouTube, Ko-fi, Bluesky, Tumblr, Facebook, and anything new that wanders out of the woods.

What’s next for Survivor Incognito?

More diaries, more guides, more ways to almost survive. New games, new disasters, same portable chaos.

If you want a front-row seat to the static, keep an eye on the Survivor’s Camp.
