Dark Waters: A Dredge Survival โ€“ Day Six

A mysterious mansion, a weird engine, and an eyeball fish that failed to impress. Day 6 of the Dredge permadeath run brings new quests, strange artefacts, and a Collector with a taste for cursed objects.

Missed the previous day? You can find it here: Dark Waters: A Dredge Survival Day Five

A Photographer, a Mansion, and the Case of the Unsold Fish

The day starts before Iโ€™ve even had a chance to stretch my sea legs. The Mayor greets me with a new concernโ€”apparently a photographer passed through recently, heading south. I’m told I should find her and say hello. Social obligations while I’m fishing for my life? Fine. Iโ€™ll add it to the to-do listโ€ฆ just beneath โ€œdonโ€™t go mad at sea.โ€

I set off from Greater Marrow and head south, making landfall on the first island that looks like it might have plumbing. It turns out to be Blackstone Isle, which sounds charming in the โ€œhaunted Victorian manorโ€ kind of way. I arrive at 8:55 AM.

I check the mansionโ€”naturally, itโ€™s locked. I poke around the nearby workshop instead, only to find a Sign of Ruin and something called an arterial engine, which I assume isnโ€™t medically approved. I also learn a harsh lesson: I forgot to sell yesterdayโ€™s catch. Either that or the game saved before I did. Either way, Iโ€™m hauling stinky fish back to town.

Selling Fish and Summoning Fishy Deals

I dock at Greater Marrow around 12:49 PM and go through the usual unloading dance with the Fishmonger. Then I chat with the Mysterious Figure again, whoโ€”surpriseโ€”sends me back to Blackstone Isle.

Naturally, I fish on the way. Because of course I do. This time I reel in an all-seeing cod, which sounds cool until I try to impress the Fishmonger with it later and he gives me a book instead of admiration. Apparently, cod with eyeballs where they shouldnโ€™t be are so last season.

At 16:12 PM, I dock at Blackstone Isle again. This time, the mansion is open and I meet The Collector, who is absolutely not sinister at all. I hand over the handkerchief I fished out of a monster, and he offers to upgrade my ship to allow dredgingโ€”basically seabed looting. Sounds good!

He gives me a cursed scavenger hunt: find a ring, necklace, watch, music box, and key. Why do I feel like Iโ€™m helping someone complete a haunted wedding registry?

Grouper Disappointment and DIY Moving Services

I attempt once again to find the elusive Black Grouper on the return journey. I fail again. The Grouper and I are clearly not fated to meet.

Back in Greater Marrow at 22:55 PM, I get flagged down by multiple NPCs who seem to think I donโ€™t have enough to do:

The Lighthouse Keeper shares a shipwreck location.

The Builder wants to move and gives me a shopping list:

โ— 2x Lumber

โ— 2x Scrap

โ— Deliver to Steel Point

I finish my last few conversations, sell the disappointing fish, and finally restโ€”making sure to save and quit properly this time so I donโ€™t repeat the rotting-fish incident.

Daily Summary

Date: Day 6
Events:

Spoke to the Mayor about the missing Photographer

Visited Blackstone Isle and found the Sign of Ruin

Forgot to sell fish from Day 5

Met The Collector and received dredge equipment

Fished an all-seeing cod (not as exciting as it sounds)

Got quests from the Lighthouse Keeper and the Builder

Still havenโ€™t caught a Black Grouper

Slept peacefully after a long, confusing day

Whatโ€™s Next?

More chaos, more permadeath, and maybe even a few victories (no promises). Stay tuned!

ARK: Aberration โ€“ Day One Diary: Punching Trees, Hallucinating Plants, and a Cliff Dive of Doom

My first day in ARK: Aberration on Nintendo Switch. From punching trees to cliff diving for water, join me for a chaotic survival tale featuring hallucinations, heat, and questionable choices.

Not sure where I am? Please check out the  ARK: Survival Evolved Maps

Welcome to Aberration

I decide to spawn at the Portalโ€”the game assures me this is the easiest spot to start, so naturally, I trust it. I materialize in my underwear (as you do) and am immediately told Iโ€™m too hot. How? Iโ€™m practically naked!

Undeterred, I begin my search for trees to punch and rocks to grab. It sounds simple, but this is ARK. The landscape is full of creatures, including a Tek Stegosaurus!

I want it. I want it badly. But Iโ€™m level one, with zero taming ability. So I sigh, and return to foraging.

Tools, Berries, and the Great Stone Hunt

Before long, Iโ€™ve got a healthy stash of berries, thatch, and wood. I cobble together some primitive clothingโ€”so long, underwear! Now for stones. The game clearly enjoys messing with me. Stones are everywhere, yet my button presses achieve nothing. After several failed attempts, I finally manage to pick some up. Tools: crafted.

Next problem: water. Iโ€™m parched, and the nearest source is… at the bottom of a cliff. Whatโ€™s a survivor to do? I jump. If I die, heyโ€”at least the Graveyard page gets a funny new entry. Miraculously, I survive.

The Hallucination Plant

Feeling triumphant, I approach a strange plant. Surely nothing bad could happen. The plant proves me wrong. Iโ€™m instantly hallucinating, defecating like itโ€™s a competitive sport, and generally regretting my life choices. After about 30 seconds, it stops. Do I consider touching the plant again? Absolutely. Do I? Thankfully, no.

Night Falls, Chaos Rises

Darkness sets in. I light a torchโ€”instant overheating. My options are: see where Iโ€™m going and melt, or stumble blindly in comfort.

And then, I become overencumbered. I offload a ton, even dip below my carry limit. Still canโ€™t move. Can crouch, can look around, but walk or jump? Nope. At this point, I call it a day.

Final Thoughts

Not how I imagined my first day in Aberration ending, but I had a blast. Stay tunedโ€”surely it can only get weirder from here.

The Backyard Trials: Grounded Permadeath โ€“ Day Three

The lasers are fixed, the oak tree explodes, and my survival odds finally start looking upโ€ฆ until a Crab Weaver reminds me whoโ€™s in charge. Day 3 brings progress, panic, and a near-death lesson about checking my map.

Missed day two? You can find what happened here: The Backyard Trials Day Two

The Wire Chewers

With the mysterious laser issue still unresolved, I decide todayโ€™s the day I track down the problem. A short hike later, I find the culprit: lawn mites have developed a taste for high-powered laser wiring. Excellent.

I follow the damaged wire underground, spear in hand, clearing out every mite that dares cross my path. Eventually, I reach a rock wall marked with a hammer symbol โ€” a clear message from the backyard itself: โ€œCome back when you’re better equipped.โ€ Noted.

As I head back topside, I spot one final mite chewing away. One quick jab andโ€”problem solved. The laser is fixed. Victory! Soon, Iโ€™ll be big again! (Or so I naively believe.)

Press The Buttonโ€ฆ What Could Go Wrong?

I return to the mysterious machine, filled with hope. I press the button. The lasers power up, align… and then the oak tree explodes. That wasnโ€™t part of the plan.

New objective: Investigate the oak tree.
Of course it is.

Panic, Maps, and Lessons Learned

Not entirely sure how to get to the oak tree, I open my map to drop a waypoint for my base camp. Thatโ€™s when the game teaches me a very valuable permadeath lesson:

The map does not pause the game.

Right as Iโ€™m happily setting my waypoint, the words Threat Detected! flash up. I close the map andโ€”surprise!โ€”a Crab Weaver is charging directly at me. My tactical response? Immediate and panicked retreat.

Pro tip for future runs: check your surroundings before opening the map.

Juice, Science, and Helmets

On my retreat, I have a small moment of clarityโ€”I actually already have a hammer. So technically, I couldโ€™ve broken that underground wall earlier. Thatโ€™s a tomorrow problem.

I do, however, discover a giant juice box while escaping, which might help solve my ongoing water concerns. Small wins.

With hammer in hand, I head back to the wire tunnel, smash through the blocked path, and find 500 raw science waiting for me. Iโ€™m starting to feel like a backyard archaeologist.

Back at base, I cook up some meat (and immediately learn that cooked food spoils fast), craft myself an ant helmet to boost my carrying strength, and research a few more materials. More blueprints unlock, and for the first time, I feel cautiously optimistic about my survival chances.

The Next Task: Grubs

As night falls, I spot something burrowing under the ground. A little research tells me these are grubs, and Iโ€™ll need a shovel to dig them up.

Tomorrowโ€™s mission: craft a shovel and go grub hunting.

If you want to know more about this, please checkout the The Backyard Trials: Grounded Permadeath page

Sneak, Snipe, Repeat: Skyrim Survival Day Ten

Vampires, Arrows, and Question Footwear

Day 10 of my Skyrim Survival playthrough on Nintendo Switch. I finally track down the Master Vampire, get cursed, loot a backpack, and question one vampireโ€™s strange obsession with boots.

Missed the previous entry? Find it here: Skyrim Survival Day Nine

Cave of Arrows and Errors

I picked up where I left offโ€”tracking down the Master Vampire whoโ€™d been making Morthal miserable. The cave wasnโ€™t far, but it was full of surprises. The first being how embarrassingly bad I am with a bow.

Two frostbite spiders greeted me, and I introduced them to about fifteen arrowsโ€”most of which missed. Somehow they didnโ€™t notice. Either Iโ€™m too stealthy or they were too busy being creepy in the dark.

Thralls, Vampires, and the Great Boot Hoard
Things picked up after that. I managed to sneak around and take out two thralls without them raising the alarm. They dropped quietly, like they knew it was their time.

Then I stumbled across a vampire sleeping off the night shift. One solid sneak attack and it was nap time forever. They didnโ€™t have much, but their bookshelf was packed with boots. Not books. Boots. One of them boosted my sneaking, so I took the hint and left the rest.

Alva, Infection, and Indecision

Further in, Alva reappearedโ€”clearly still in a mood after her last defeat. A thrall decided to help me by attacking her, which made things easier. But before I could finish the job, she tagged me with Sanguinare Vampiris. So now Iโ€™m infected. Not thrilled, but not rushing to cure it either. Still weighing the pros and cons of turning undead.

Mission Complete, Bonus Backpack Secured
Eventually I found and eliminated the Master Vampire. No dramatic boss fightโ€”just a clean, quiet finish. I headed back to Morthal, where the Jarl thanked me and promised the Thane title if I helped the locals.

While doing some casual burglaryโ€”I mean, investigatingโ€”I came across a backpack enchantment that boosts bow damage by 10%. I took it as divine intervention for my earlier archery shame.

Rest, Recovery, and Ustengrav Awaits

With the vampire threat handled (for now), I rested at the inn and prepped for tomorrowโ€™s journey to Ustengrav. Hopefully no more spiders. Or at least fewer boots.

Behind the Blog: ARK Map Page Expansion โ€“ All Maps, All Mayhem (In Progress)

Quick update! Iโ€™m in the process of expanding the ARK Survival Evolved map page to cover all Switch maps โ€” because one deadly dino-infested region just isnโ€™t enough.

๐Ÿฆ– A Little Update from the Blog Frontlines

Iโ€™m currently working on expanding the ARK Survival Evolved map page โ€” the goal is to cover all of the maps available on Switch. From the dunes of Scorched Earth to the terrifying depths of Aberration, I want the page to reflect the full dino-infested chaos thatโ€™s coming in my permadeath series.

If youโ€™re planning your own survival adventure (or just want to see where Iโ€™m likely to meet my end), you can check out the work in progress here: [link to my ARK map page].

โšก Why This Update?

With my upcoming ARK permadeath series in the works, it felt right to make sure the blogโ€™s map page reflects every hazardous region Iโ€™ll be facing. Because why limit myself to one place to get stomped on by dinos?

๐Ÿ“Œ Whatโ€™s Next?

Iโ€™ll keep updating the page as I go, I will also do another post when it’s finished, and Iโ€™ll be sharing more about my planned map order for the series soon. If youโ€™ve got a favorite (or most feared) ARK map, Iโ€™m always happy to hear it!

Also expect a new Day One Diary in ARK hopefully sooner than later. I’m paying a visit to Aberration and if I’m honest, genuinely had a lot fun there

Customloper Diaries Day Three: Charcoal Maps, Rabbit Stew, and a Surprise Wolf Hug

Customloper Diaries โ€“ Day 3: Charcoal Maps, Rabbit Stew, and a Surprise Wolf Hug

Weather: Cold start, blizzard pockets, clearing skies

Loot Highlights: Memento cache supplies, birch saplings (for later), Paradise Meadows key, rabbit + fish dinner

Mood: Cocky โ†’ practical โ†’ โ€œwhy is that wolf sprinting?โ€

Missed Day 2? Read it here.  |
What is Customloper?

Early Start, No Light, No Dignity

I wake up at an hour only owls respect. Rather than burn a match in Grey Motherโ€™s house, I feel my way to the door like a bargain-bin escape room contestant. After negotiating with every chair leg in Milton, I finally make it outside to a slate-blue morning and a bitey wind.

Holy Cache, Batman!

The church memento cache pays out: matches, food, and an energy drink. With the essentials secured, I hop between cars toward Milton Bridge, using charcoal to sketch the town like a freezing Bob Ross. The map fills in; my fingers disagree with the artistic direction.

Gun Dreams, Birch Realities

Confidence high, I angle for Paradise Meadows Farm in the faint hope of finding a rifle. Birds circling drag me off-trail toward a body that contributes precisely nothing to my survival except the reminder that I will absolutely chase birds every time.

Nearby I spot birch saplings. Cue a hopeful bow-crafting fantasyโ€ฆ promptly crushed when I re-remember itโ€™s maple I need. I leave the birch to cure anywayโ€”Future Me loves having options.

Bunny Catch, Farm Key, and Yes, Wolves Exist

One clean stone throw nets a rabbit. Moments laterโ€”bingoโ€”Paradise Meadows Farmhouse key. Also: my first wolf sighting of the run. So they do exist on Customloper; they were just waiting for dramatic timing.

Inside the farmhouse itโ€™s open-season on usefulness:

  • Wool long johns
  • A fish stashed in the freezer
  • A skillet lounging atop the fridge
  • Two more cooking pots (apparently I run a wilderness diner now)

Dinner Is Served

I harvest the rabbit, spot the recipe, and make rabbit stewโ€”with the freezer fish as a bonus course. Water boils, gear gets sorted, excess clothes hit the floor. Feeling very competent, I decide to haul the skillet back to Grey Motherโ€™s. This hubris will be important later.

Wolf Attack Outta Nowhere

Cutting back through Milton, I take one curious corner too many andโ€”bamโ€”wolf sprint. I backpedal for a door, take a hit, and tumble inside with the grace of a sack of sticks. Painkillers down, bandage on, dignity postponed.

I repair what I can until the fatigue meter taps out, then finish the day with rabbit stew and the kind of silence that says โ€œweโ€™ll try that route again tomorrowโ€ฆ smarter.โ€

End of Day 3.

Continue the Journey

Dark Waters: A Dredge Survival โ€“ Day Five

The search for one stubborn fish continues. Instead, I find a mutant flounder, a handkerchief inside a fish, and a shady stranger with a business proposition. Also, I upgrade my boatโ€™s engine, because speed might save my life.

Missed the previous day? Find it here: Dark Waters: A Dredge Survival โ€“ Day Four

The Elusive Fish and the Flounder of Nightmares

I began Day 5, once again hoping to finally catch this Black Grouper that seems more myth than fish at this point. With desperate optimism, I set out, casting my line into the nearest fishing spot. The sea, as always, had other plans.

First bite?
A Cyclopean Flounder.

It stared back at me with its single eye and enough teeth to make a dentist weep. Not the fish I was after, but a catch nonetheless.

I kept fishing, still determined. A Gulf Flounder followed, then a Stingray, and finally a lone Cod. Still no sign of the Grouper. As if the ocean wanted to taunt me further, I spotted another message bobbing in the waves.

Another Message, Another Mystery

I fished up the bottle and stashed the message, adding one more note to my growing collection of cryptic correspondence. Given how last night played out, I didnโ€™t want to risk another late return. I steered back toward Greater Marrow and docked at 6:24 PM โ€” safely ahead of nightfall this time.

The Handkerchief Surprise

The Fishmonger, completely unfazed by the mutant flounder, carved it open with all the care of a man slicing a ham sandwich. Inside?
A delicately patterned handkerchief.

Because of course thereโ€™s a handkerchief inside the cyclopean mutant.

He handed it over without a second thought. Not sure why I need a bloodstained fish hanky, but I suspect someone on Lesser Marrow might know. Before I could make inquiries, however, my day took a turn.

The Stranger on the Dock

As I sat in my boat, a man appeared at the dock. He didnโ€™t step closer, just stood watching.

He knew I had spoken with the Fishmonger.

Creepy.

He offered to examine the handkerchiefโ€ฆ but only if I met him at Blackstone Isle. South of Greater Marrow. He mentioned a “business proposition.” That always ends well.

Speed Upgrade: Because Running May Soon Be Required

Before ending the day, I stopped by the Shipwright. She handed me a book titled “Correct Engine Operation.” Subtle.

I also installed an Improved Outboard Engine, moving my old engine into storage. If Iโ€™m about to get involved in someoneโ€™s “business proposition,” having more speed felt like a solid investment.

With that done, I called it a night โ€” and will decide tomorrow if a trip to Blackstone Isle is brave or just plain stupid.

Daily Summary

  • Fish Caught: 1 Cyclopean Flounder, 1 Gulf Flounder, 1 Stingray, 1 Cod
  • Madness Strikes: Still just one
  • Damage Taken: None
  • New Item Obtained: Delicately Patterned Handkerchief
  • Business Propositions Recieved: 1 (Blackstone Isle invitation)

Behind the Blog: ARK Plans, Minecraft Madness, and Whatโ€™s Coming Next

A peek behind the scenes at Survivor Incognito! Iโ€™m planning an epic ARK map-hopping permadeath series, scheming up Minecraft chaos with 15 survival rules, and plotting the next waves of mayhem.

I figured it was time for a little behind the blog moment โ€” because while my in-game characters are busy getting eaten, frozen, or flattened, Iโ€™m quietly plotting even more ways to make their (and my) lives harder. Hereโ€™s whatโ€™s brewing in the background of Survivor Incognito.

๐Ÿฆ– ARK: One Map Just Isnโ€™t Enough

If you thought Day One Diaries for ARK: Survival Evolved was the end of my dino-related disastersโ€ฆ oh no. The plan is to turn ARK into a full permadeath series where I attempt to survive across all the Switch maps. That means scorched deserts, radiation zones, angry dinos, and probably at least one embarrassing death involving a dodo.

Right now, Iโ€™m working on:

  • Fine-tuning the settings so itโ€™s challenging, but not โ€œspawn, breathe, dieโ€ levels of misery.
  • Figuring out a sensible (or chaotic) map progression โ€” because who doesnโ€™t want to see me go from Midlands 4 to Aberration and beyond?

This new series will (hopefully) kick off after the ARK Day One Diaries finish, so stay tuned!

โ›๏ธ Minecraft: 15 Rules of Mayhem

Yes, Iโ€™m also eyeing Minecraft. But not just any survival run โ€” Iโ€™m planning a permadeath challenge with a twist:

  • ๐Ÿ‘‰ Iโ€™ll start with a list of 15 survival rules.
  • ๐Ÿ‘‰ Each day, I have to follow one rule.
  • ๐Ÿ‘‰ If I fail? The next day Iโ€™ll have to follow two rules at once.
  • ๐Ÿ‘‰ Keep failing? Enjoy juggling three, four, five rulesโ€ฆ you get the idea.

Itโ€™s part survival, part self-sabotage, part comedy. Iโ€™m still finalizing the rules (because letโ€™s be honest, there are so many ways to make this worse for myself). Expect everything from โ€œno weapons todayโ€ to โ€œyou must sleep every night or else.โ€

๐Ÿ”œ Whatโ€™s Coming Next

In the meantime, the usual suspects continue:

  • SnowRunner: The Permagear Diaries are ready to get muddy.
  • Dredge: Madness? What madness? Iโ€™m totally fine.
  • The Cold Chronicles: Still cold. Still surviving. Somehow.
  • Sneak, Snipe, Repeat: Stealth archer life, mostly.
  • Grounded: Where the backyard is the scariest place Iโ€™ve ever been.

Thanks for following along! If youโ€™re enjoying the ride (or the wrecks), make sure to subscribe or follow on Tumblr, Facebook, or Bluesky. Chaos loves company.

Hereโ€™s What You Missed This Week โ€“ Survivor Incognito Recap

Itโ€™s been another action-packed week of survival, chaos, and questionable decisions over at Survivor Incognito. If youโ€™ve been busy wrestling giant crabs, flipping trucks, or dodging ghost fish, hereโ€™s your chance to catch up!

๐ŸŒจ๏ธ Monday โ€“ Why I Made SnowRunner Permadeath

I broke down the logic (or madness?) behind turning SnowRunner into a permadeath challenge. Because nothing says โ€œrelaxing driveโ€ like knowing one bad flip could end it all. [Read More Here]

๐ŸŒŠ Tuesday โ€“ Dark Waters: A Dredge Survival โ€“ Day Four

The sea giveth, the sea taketh awayโ€ฆ and sometimes it just giveth more terror. Day Four of my Dredge permadeath series saw the madness meter creeping ever higher. [Dark Waters: A Dredge Survival โ€“ Day Four]

Another day, another frostbite risk. My Voyageur survivor braved the cold and the chaos as we inch further into this brutal Long Dark journey. [The Cold Chronicles Day Seven: A Voyageurโ€™s Tale of The Long Dark]

๐Ÿน Thursday โ€“ Sneak, Snipe, Repeat โ€“ Day Nine

The Argonian archer continued slinking through Skyrim, proving that stealth is greatโ€”right up until it isnโ€™t. Day Nine brought more dragons, more necromancy, and more โ€œhow did that go so wrong?โ€ moments. [Sneak, Snipe, Repeat: Skyrim Survival Day Nine]

๐Ÿœ Friday โ€“ Grounded: Day Two

The backyard is still terrifying. Day Two brought more bugs, more base-building, and more moments of me asking why I ever thought permadeath was a good idea here. [The Backyard Trials: Grounded Permadeath โ€“ Day Two]
